I'm super excited that I can finally post my first blog entry. I decided to make a fondant birthday cake for my nephew's 4th birthday. I've never made fondant and have never used fondant so I thought it would be an interesting first post. I did plenty of research and watched a million videos, well almost a million. I thought wow this is going to be easy, boy was I wrong.
I went with the option of making marshmallow fondant since it required fewer ingredients than the traditional fondant. Making the fondant was easy, rolling and decorating the cake was difficult. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. My fondant stuck to the counter, it bubbled, it stretched and thinned out on certain parts. Also, after it was on the cake there were noticeable air pockets and also sagging on the sides. I gave up perfection and went with what I had. The cake made its way to the party and my nephew loved it, so did all his friends. That made me feel like my cake was a success. Yay!
So back to square one, more research!
